Two people inspired me on this.  Annie Leibovitz's deceptively simple portrait lighting setups, and Robert Mapplethorpe's ability to make things look majestic, and three-dimensional.  My mission here was to create a "big" black and white image that will try and get the "dimension" of Mapplethorpe along with the dramatic portrait lighting of Leibovitz - although my lighting is a lot more contrasty than Annie's.
